- database
- A collection of bits of information that can be grouped, collated, sorted and analyzed in numerous ways to provide a variety of information and reports.
- database marketing
- An approach by which computer database technologies are harnessed to design, create and manage customer data lists containing information about each customer's characteristics and history of interaction with the company.
- demographics
- The study of total size, gender, territorial distribution, age, composition and other characteristics of human populations; the analysis of changes in the make-up of a population.
- desktop publishing
- Use of computer hardware and software to prepare page layouts (text and graphics).
- detail piece/detailer
- A printed document that provides information designed to be delivered by a sales representative in a face-to-face setting.
- die cut
- The use of sharp, steel rules to cut shapes in printed material, such as a window that lets you see through the cover of a brochure.
- direct mail advertising
- The use of the mail delivered by the U.S. Postal Service or other delivery services as an advertising media vehicle.
- direct marketing
- The practice of delivering promotional messages directly to potential customers on an individual basis as opposed to through a mass medium. Includes methods such as direct mail, email marketing and telemarketing.
- direct response advertising
- An approach to advertising that includes a method of response such as an address or telephone number whereby members of the audience can respond directly to the advertiser in order to purchase a product or service offered in the advertising.
- display advertising
- Newspaper or magazine advertising other than classified advertising, typically using words and images, in black and white or in full color.
- domain name
- An exclusive internet address belonging to a single entity, such as "www.5MetaCom.com."
- drill(ing)
- Boring holes in printed materials, typically to allow for insertion into a binder.
- DTN
- Data Transmission Network. A satellite communications company that provides subscribers with news, markets and weather information via dedicated terminals. Primarily used by farmers, ranchers, bankers and agribusiness professionals.
